Thursday Program, October 19

Thursday's program was structured to address two questions of concern for participants: “So what happened?” and "So what's next?". The morning session was devoted to creating a picture of what happened across the Initiative - what the activities of individual projects added up to.

The second question, “So what’s next?," addressed participants concerns about what will happen to them, their project, and the connections they have made in the Initiative. Thursday afternoon featured opportunities to talk about these transition issues:

  • Durability – What factors contribute to the durability of an academic program?

  • The Voice of Practice – How can we continue to build and maintain systems for engaging the voice of practice in the development of educational programs?

  • The Voice of Higher Education – How can we influence practitioners and their organizations to use higher education to improve nonprofit management and leadership?

  • Continuing Relationships – How can we build on relationships developed across the Initiative?

Thursday evening was a group dinner out of the hotel. Buses took us to a small gourmet restaurant below DuPont Circle. We had exclusive use of the restaurant that evening. This experience echoed the meal at Mirasol in Puerto Madero last year – laughter, camaraderie, relaxed conversation, and good food.

Friday Program, October 20

The Showcase for Nonprofit Management Education promoted the work of the Building Bridges grant projects. The Kellogg Foundation extended invitations to representatives of the nonprofit sector press, foundations and organizations of foundations, infrastructure organizations, higher education organizations, government, and other stakeholder groups. These guests, along with our own members, participated in a program of speeches, project exhibits, and project presentations.

Friday afternoon, after the Showcase ended, the group's attention focused on planning for the last year of the Initiative and the capstone experience.
